1. Padma Shri awardee artist Ram Chandra Manjhi passes away:

  • He was a Bhojpuri Folk dancer artist
  • He performed the Bhojpuri folk dance ‘Naach’ for eight decades.
  • He was a famous performer of ‘Launda Naach’, a subset of ‘Naach’, in which men crossdress as women.
  • It is a folk dance that is prevalent in the Bhojpuri Speaking regions of ‘Bihar’

2. UNDP HDR 2021 – India Ranks 132:

  • India ranked 132 out of 191 countries in the 2021 Human Development Index (HDI), according to a report released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
  • Among India’s neighbours, Sri Lanka (73rd), China (79th), Bangladesh (129th) and Bhutan (127th) are ranked above India.
  • Switzerland remained at the top spot, followed by Norway and Iceland.
  • India ranked 131 in the 2020 index.
  • The 1st report was published in 1990.

3. India’s longest Rubber Dam inaugurated in Bihar:

  • Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated India’s longest rubber dam ‘Gayaji Dam’ on the Falgu river in Gaya, Bihar.
  • It is 411 meters long & 3 meters high & has been built at a cost of Rs 312 crores.
  • With its construction, now at least two feet of water will be available in the Falgu river near Vishnupad Ghat throughout the year for the devotees who come here to do Pind Daan.

4. NITI Aayog launches India’s first national electric freight platform:

  • NITI Aayog, in collaboration with World Resources Institute (WRI), India, has launched the country’s 1st national electric freight platform- e-FAST India (Electric Freight Accelerator for Sustainable Transport).
  • Aim: to raise awareness on freight electrification bolstered by on-ground demonstration pilots & evidence-based research.

5. World Physiotherapy Day:

  • Observed on 8th September
  • Theme 2022 – “Prevention and Management of Osteoarthritis”
  • Physiotherapy deals with the management of chronic conditions & underlying issues related to pain.

6. Tripura – set up bio villages:

  • 1st of their kind in the country.
  • It has been set up by incorporating renewable energy.
  • The components such as biogas, improved breed of livestock, solar-powered agricultural equipment and energy-saving electrical devices were included.

7. 36th National Games:

  • Also known as Gujarat Games 2022.
  • Held in 6 six cities – Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar.
  • The 35th edition was held in Kerala in 2015
  • The roar Savaj is the mascot for this edition.

8. Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan:

  • President Droupadi Murmu virtually launched the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan
  • It is aimed at working towards TB elimination from the country by 2025 and has been envisaged to bring together all community stakeholders.
  • The President will also launch the “Nikshay Mitra initiative” which forms a vital component of the ‘Abhiyaan’.
  • The Nikshay Mitra portal provides a platform for donors to provide various forms of support to those undergoing TB treatment. The donors are called Nikshay Mitras.
  • The three-pronged support includes Nutritional, Additional Diagnostic, and vocational support.

9. India – Japan 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue:

  • External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh are participating in the second India-Japan 2+ 2 Foreign and Defence Ministerial Meeting in Tokyo.
  • India and Japan agreed to further enhance their security and defence cooperation, including holding the first Air Force fighter exercises, as they reaffirmed their commitment to a rules-based global order that respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations, amidst China’s aggressive moves in the strategic Indo-Pacific region.
  • The year 2022 marks the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic relations between India and Japan.

10. New High Commissioner to New Zealand:

  • ‘Neeta Bhushan’ was named as the High commissioner of India to New Zealand.
  • He succeeds Muktesh Pardeshi who is tasked with India’s G-20 Secretariat.
