  • The day marks the 553rd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev and the festival of Baisakhi.
  • The turban is also known as ‘dastar’ or ‘pagri’ or ‘pag’.
  • Guru Nanak Dev – the founder of Sikhism and is the first of the ten Sikh gurus.

15. Samathuvapuram:

  • TN government has inaugurated Periyar memorial Samathuvapuram at Pilipakuttai in Namagiripettai panchayat union in Namakkal district.
  • The Samathuvapuram scheme was announced in 1997, by the then DMK government, to eradicate caste division and promote equity.
  • The first samathuvapuram was inaugurated by M. Karunanidhi on 17 August 1998 in the Melakottai village near Thirumangalam, Madurai.

16. Seema Darshan Project:

  • Inaugurated by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah
  • Inaugurated at Nadabet which is located on the Indo-Pak border in the Banaskantha district of Gujarat.
  • Aim to provide an opportunity to the people to visualize the life and work of BSF personnel.

17. 100th Anniversary of Har Gobind Khorana:

  • Born in 1922
  • Indian Nobel Prize winner.
  • Indian – American biochemist
  • He was awarded the Nobel prize in 1968 for the interpretation of the genetic code and its function in protein synthesis.
  • He deciphered DNA and wrote the dictionary for our genetic language.
