1. Earth’s Defender ‘Vigil’:

  • Introduced by a European Space Agency (ESA)
  • To protect the earth from the sun.
  • It will be launched to the 5th Lagrange point (L5) which is 150 million kilometres from both earth and the sun.
  • Lagrange points are the locations in outer space that are gravitationally stable as compared to other locations.
  • The vigil will help to warn the earth about the upcoming solar storms which can damage power grids, disrupt telecommunications and the vital services they provide.

2. World Glaucoma Day:

  • Observed on 12th March.
  • To create awareness about Glaucoma, one of the most common causes of irreversible blindness.
  • Theme 2022: “The world is bright, save your sight”.
  • World Glaucoma week – 6th to 12th March.

3. ILO report on jobs for women:

  • The report titled: “Care at Work: Investing in care leave and services for a more gender-equal world of work”
  • By investing in universal childcare and long term care services, about 299 million jobs can be generated by 2035. Women will receive 234 million (78%) of these funds.

4. Mission Indradhanush: Odisha tops the list:

  • Odisha – full immunisation in India with 90.5 percent coverage under the mission.
  • The diseases included in full immunisation are tuberculosis, polio, diphtheria, jaundice, tetanus, whooping cough, brain fever, HIV, measles, pneumonia, diarrhoea, rubella, Japanese fever.
  • Launched on December 25, 2014
  • It is the universal immunisation programme that seeks to achieve 90% full immunisation coverage in India by 2022.

5. Swiss AirLine to be the first to use fuel made from sunlight:

  • Swiss is the first airline in the world to use the sun as a liquid fuel.
  • It uses concentrated sunlight to produce carbon-neutral kerosene.

6. India’s first medical city:

  • ‘Indrayani Medicity’ to be set up in Pune, Maharashtra.
  • This will have hospitals, centres for medical research, pharmaceutical manufacturing, wellness, and physiotherapy all are available in one place.

7. Gabriel Boric Font has been appointed the new president of Chile. He is the youngest leader to hold office in Chile’s history.

9. International day of Mathematics:

  • Observed on 14th of March
  • Also known as “Pi Day”
  • Theme 2022: “Mathematics Unites!”
  • First observed in 2020.

  • Book: ‘Wrist Assured’
  • Author: G.R. Viswanath

11. Book-length poem released:

  • Book-length poem: “Monsoon”
  • Author: Abhay K
  • Released by Sahitya Akademi which was established in 1954.

12. Touch-less touch screen technology developed can restrain viruses spreading through contact:

  • Recently Bengaluru based scientists have set up a semi-automated production plant for the production of printing-aided patterned (resolution of around 300𝜇m) transparent electrodes, which has the potential for being utilized in advanced touchless screen technologies.
