1. Digital Rupee – RBI Launches its First Pilot Project:
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has commenced pilot launches of the digital rupee from November 1. It has identified nine banks for participation in the pilot launch.
- A Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) or Digital Rupee is a digital form of currency notes issued by a central bank. Digital currency or the rupee is an electronic form of money that can be used in contactless transactions.
- Presenting Union Budget 2022, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) would be rolling out its digital currency soon.
2. India’s Ministry of Defence – World’s Biggest Employer:
- India’s Ministry of Defence is the world’s biggest employer with 2.92 million people, which includes combined active service personnel, reservists and civilian staff, according to a report in ‘Statista’.
- Statista is a Germany-based private organisation that provides data and statistics about various issues worldwide.
- According to Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the five largest spenders in 2021 were the United States, China, India, the United Kingdom and Russia, together accounting for 62 per cent of expenditure. The total global military expenditure reached USD 2113 billion in 2021.
3. 1st ASEAN – India Start Up Festival 2022 inaugurated in Bogor, Indonesia:
- The 1st ASEAN-India Start-up Festival will further strengthen the ASEAN-India cooperation to accelerate the start-up economy.
4. Foundation Day of UT Ladakh – 31st October 2022:
- Ladakh was established as a union territory of India on 31 October 2019, following the passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act.
- Prior to that, it was part of the Jammu and Kashmir state.
- It is the largest and the 2nd least populous union territory of India.
5. India Water Week – 1st to 5th November:
- In an effort to raise awareness, conserve and use water resources in an integrated manner, the Union Ministry of Water Resources will organise the 7th edition of India Water Week from 1st to 5th Nov 2022.
- The theme of the 7th edition is “Water Security for Sustainable Development and Equity”.
- The event will be inaugurated by the President of India Droupadi Murmu on 1st Nov 2022 in Greater Noida, UP.
6. HARIT Aaykar Initiative – to Create Micro Forests:
- Launched by the Income Tax Department on the occasion of National Unity Day (31st Oct) to increase greenery and create micro forests.
- HARIT is the abbreviation of Hariyali Achievement Resolution by Income Tax.
7. Northeast’s First Fish Museum at Tarin, Arunachal Pradesh:
- The fish museum would be a part of India’s first integrated Aqua Park sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying at Tarin (Ziro) in the lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh.
8. IMT TRILAT:
- India-Mozambique-Tanzania Trilateral Exercise.
- It is a joint maritime exercise between the navies of India, Mozambique and Tanzania held at Tanzania.
9. Book & Author:
- “De la Nuclearisation de I’ Asie” (Nuclearization of Asia)
- Authored by Rene Naba (French Author)
- The book discusses the nuclear emergency and threat posed by the nexus of Pakistan and China.
10. National Intellectual Property Awards:
- The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has been conferred for the years 2021 and 2022.
- The main criteria of evaluation for these awards are Patent Applications, Grants and Commercialization.
11. China launches 3rd and final space station component:
- The uncrewed Mengtian (“Dreaming of the Heavens”) module was launched atop China’s most powerful rocket, the Long March 5B.
- China’s third and final module was docked with its permanent space station to further a more than decade-long effort to maintain a constant crewed presence in orbit.
- The space station is set to be the second permanently inhabited outpost in low-Earth orbit after the NASA-led International Space Station.
