1. Village Defence Guards Scheme 2022:

  • Launched by the government of Jammu and Kashmir
  • To organise a small group of volunteer armed civilians in identified villages along the borders as well as in-depth areas of the Jammu region.
  • With a view to instil a sense of self-protection and ensure the safety and security of such villages, infrastructural installations in and around them, and check the trans-border movement.

2. Transgender people to be covered under AB-PMJAY:

  • Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana
  • It will provide Transgender Persons rightful and respectable place in society.
  • It would apply to all transgender people who do not currently get benefits from the existing centre/state-sponsored schemes.
  • India – 1st the country in the world to provide free-of-cost facilities like cosmetic surgery to the transgender community under a government scheme.

About AB-PMJAY:

  • Launched on 23rd September 2018 in Ranchi, Jharkhand by PM Modi.
  • Largest health assurance in the world.
  • Aims at providing a health cover of Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization to poor vulnerable families.
  • PM-JAY provides cashless access to health care services for the beneficiary at the point of service, that is, the hospital.
  • It covers up to 3 days of pre-hospitalization and 15 days of post-hospitalization expenses such as diagnostics and medicines.
  • There is no restriction on the family size, age or gender.
  • Benefits of the scheme are portable across the country i.e. a beneficiary can visit any empanelled public or private hospital in India to avail of cashless treatment.

3. UNESCO Peace Prize 2022:

  • Awarded to former German Chancellor Angela Merkel
  • For her efforts to welcome refugees

5. National Conference on Women Police:

  • Held in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh
  • Organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs
  • The conference will showcase the achievements of women police officers and discuss the challenges faced by them.

6. Geothermal Energy – Ladakh:

  • ONGC would be making a project to tap geothermal power at 14,000 feet in Ladakh.
  • India’s first geothermal energy project and also the world’s highest.
  • It is a part of the strategy adopted by India’s largest oil and gas producer to offset its carbon footprint.

7. Senior diplomat Vikram K. Doraiswami has been appointed as India’s new High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
