1. India-Central Asia Virtual Summit:

  • India hosted the 1st India-Central Asia Virtual summit.
  • Attended by the presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
  • It coincided with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Central Asian countries.

2. Noted Indian Hockey Player Charanjit Singh passed away.

3. Tamarind Maniac:

  • Grassroots innovator from Karnataka.
  • Popular as ‘tamarind maniac
  • Selected for Padma Shri for 2022
  • His prominent innovations include a device to separate tamarind seeds, a ploughing blade manufacturing machine, etc.

4. Author Ruskin Bond has come up with a new book ‘A Little Book of India: Celebrating 75 years of Independence’.

5. International Holocaust Remembrance Day:

  • Observed on 27th January every year.
  • Theme 2022: Memory, Dignity and Justice.

6. 30th Anniversary:

  • India and Israel have launched a commemorative logo to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

7. Najafgarh Jheel:

  • Located along the borders of Delhi and Haryana.
  • Transboundary wetland.
  • Aims to rejuvenate the wetland.

8. Plastic Park:

  • At Ganjimutt, Mangaluru, Karnataka.
  • These are industrial zones.
  • Play a key role in the growth of machinery supplies, plastic manufacturing and plastic recycling.
  • In Tamilnadu, it is present at Voyallur in the Thiruvallur district.

9. Adi Badri Dam:

  • The governments of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh have signed an agreement to build the dam.
  • It will rejuvenate the mythical Saraswathi river.

10. INS Khukri:

  • Has been Decommissioned.
  • Indigenous surface to surface missile fitted vessel.
  • Handed over to Diu administration.
  • To be developed as a Museum.

11. New Lizard Species:

  • Named Protoblepharus Apatani
  • Discovered at Talley Valley Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh.

12. Veteran Kathakali dancer and Padma awardee Milena Salvini passed away. Kathakali is a state dance of Kerala.

13. New Book launched:

  • Book Name: Liberty After Freedom
  • Author: Rohan J Alva

14. Brain Health Initiative:

  • Launched by Karnataka
  • 1st of its kind in India to train doctors in Mental Healthcare.
  • It aims to help people to cope with mental health issues.

15. India has paid USD 29.9million in UN regular budget assessments for the year 2022.

  • India is currently a non-permanent member of the 15 nation security council.

16. TX2 award:

  • Sathyamangalam Tiger reserve (Erode district, Tamilnadu) has been given the prestigious TX2 award after its tiger numbers doubled to 80.
  • Bardia National Park in Nepal has also won the award for doubling the population of wild tigers.
  • The award is presented by the World Wildlife Fund(WWF).
  • WWF: H.Q – Gland, Switzerland.

17. NIPER Portal:

  • National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER).
  • Launched by the union minister of chemicals and fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya.
  • The portal has been created with the aim to disseminate information about all the NIPERs and their research activities.

18. 157th birth anniversary:

  • Lala Lajpat Rai’s 157th birth anniversary is on 28th January.
  • Born in 1865 in the Ludhiana district of Punjab.
  • He was given the title of ‘Punjab Kesari’ and ‘Lion of Punjab’.
  • His writings include:
    • The Story of My Deportation – 1908
    • Arya Samaj – 1915
    • Young India – 1916
    • Unhappy India – 1928

19. Union Minister of Culture Meenakshi Lekhi released a pictorial book of India’s Women Unsung Heroes of Freedom Struggle. It contains the stories of queens who battled colonial powers in the struggle against imperial rule.

20. India – Israel:

  • Agree to further enhance cooperation in the agricultural sector.
  • 75 villages are being taken to convert into villages of Excellence to commemorate the 75th year of India’s Independence.
